July 2000

1st July 2000

I have not used the car too much just recently. I noticed that the header tank had developed another small leak. I've taken it back to Crendon and John is going to repair it. If if goes again I think I'll have one made up out of stainless or something similar.

21st July 2000

The Cobra Club was attending COYS Historic Festival at Silverstone, so Jill and I had arranged to go for the three days of the event. Today, Friday, the weather was gorgeous, so we just had to take the cobra. Being a Friday there weren't too many people there, but the cars certainly turned up. There were all sorts of historic cars, and this year they were celebrating 50 years of Formula One. I didn't know or recognise a lot of the cars, however I really enjoyed myself. Coys is very friendly and you can mingle in the pits, talk to the drivers and there is a very easy going atmosphere. However this all changes when the cars get onto the track. Jill and I spent the full day there and got a little sunburned due to the weather.

22nd July 2000

One the second day the weather was a lot more unkind, so we decided to take the tintop. The racing and spectacle was as good, however the cloud and cold made the day not as pleasant as the day before. I was glad I'd taken loads of photographs the day before, because the cars looked totally different in the grey flat light.

23rd July 2000

Another poor day in terms of weather. Today was the day when most of the races took place, Friday and Saturday were primarily put aside for practice and qualifying sessions. The racing was fast and furious and when we left at the end of the three days we both felt like we'd really been entertained.
